You are invited you to the final 500genders ART SHARE of 2008!
The theme is...(drumroll)... WINS AND LOSSES 2008!
2008... We elected our first African-American president/ Two states placed constitutional bans on same-sex marriage. 2008... We developed the richest friendships/ The economy plummeted.2008... We got laid off/ We sought out more fulfilling work.2008... We lost grandparents/ We gained inspiration from the story of their lives.2008... Got no sleep/ Gained an appreciation for sleep! Got married/ Lost our health insurance! Got rejected/ Kept on writing!
I think you get the point. So... what's your story?
Come with whatever art you "arted"-- poems, stories, dances, music, films (we will not have film-showing equipment this time, so bring your own), rambling statements, a sparkly teal outfit.. Or feel free to just come to listen. (Also feel free to be a rebel and ignore the theme entirely.)
Hope to see your beautiful shiny faces there,
Love,
Carinne, Christine, Coriel, Hope, Janis, Megan, and Pamela

ART SHARE - Friday the 13th! The theme is sex.
It's getting hot outside, and 500 Genders invites you to take some of that heat inside . . .
(actually, technically we're inviting you to keep it outside since this event will be held outside in a backyard but, you get the point)
The theme of our next art share is: SEX!
We encourage you to bring pieces of writing or of art, including short
films (we will have a projector and a screen set up), based on the theme
of SEX: First times, best times, worst times, works on desire, repulsion,
or turn us on with your hottest, steamiest, sex story. (As always, if you
don't like our chosen theme, feel free to ignore it and just share
whatever you please.)
Date: Friday, June 13th (ominous!)
Place: The backyard at 212 North 6th Street, between Driggs and Roebling
in Williamsburg (L train to Bedford) -- walk through the gate to the right
of the building).
Time: 8:30 p.m.
We will provide the vodka and fixings for sex on the beaches. Bring beer
and/or wine if that's more your speed. Donations in the form of alcohol,
food, and/or hard and fast cash are always welcome.
500 Genders is a not-for-profit organization devoted to creating and
showcasing original feminist (using that term broadly) artwork and
literary compositions. We welcome novices, amateurs, and professional
writers and artists to share with and inspire our community.
Hope to see you there!

500 Genders Writing Workshop - June 1st, 1-4pm
Friends,
Please join us for a 500Genders writing workshop on Sunday, June 1st from 1-4pm.
500Genders, a Brooklyn based, non-profit, feminist writing and performance collective, provides free bi-monthly(ish) writing workshops for the community in an effort to explore and expand the definition of feminism. You need not consider yourself a writer in order to attend! We use writing and art as forms of expression, and hope to gain knowledge and understanding through fresh media.
This particular workshop will be women-only, so please feel free to pass the word on to any female friends whom you think might be interested. However, we do have limited space, so please RSVP ASAP to corgaff@gmail.com. We will provide snacks and activities. All you need is a notebook. And please try not to be late!
The workshop will be held at Hope Boeve's apartment at 555 Prospect Place Apt 3F Brooklyn, NY. Take the 2,3,4,5 trains to Franklin Ave. Walk about 5 blocks down Franklin (against traffic). Turn left onto Prospect Place. The building will be on your right. Ring the buzzer for Apartment 3F.
If you have any questions, please call Coriel Gaffney at 718-503-4154 or Carinne Luck at 857-891-5610.
We hope to see you there!

The Fiction Circus with 500 GENDERS at Stain Bar
500 Genders has been invited to perform with/open for The Fiction Circus this Saturday at 9 PM, March 15th at Stain in Williamsburg (Grand Street and Humboldt).
The Fiction Circus made the flyers. That's all I can say.
Ah, the irony.
Come if you're in the hood and feeling genderific. We'll be an incomplete posse doing old favorites in a new order. Although, Cory's always one to pull a newbie out so you never know what she'll come up with.
L to Grand Street stop (4th in Brooklyn). Exit and walk towards Humboldt on Grand. Pass the intersection of Humboldt and Grand and you'll see Stain on your left.
